Looking for a small indoor aquaponics garden to put your home? It doesn’t get any easier than with the Aquasprouts Garden!

Here’s How The Aquasprouts Aquaponic Garden Works

Aquasprouts has created a simple garden that fits over a standard 10-gallon rectangular fish tank. The kit includes the garden, pump, timer,  grow medium, and optional light bar. A grow light is not included.

The kit also does not come with a tank so you will need to purchase one ahead of time. Any standard 10-gallon aquarium rectangular tank will work and can pick one up at the local pet store.

Set doesn’t get much easier than the Aquasprouts aquaponic garden and takes less than 10 minutes. After you’ve found a good spot for your tank have it filled, simply:

  • Attach the bulkhead fitting to the grow bed and hook up the pump.
  • Insert your risers and drains screens.
  • Place the Aquasprout garden on your fish tank.
  • Fill grow bed with grow medium
  • Set the timer to flood the grow bed and set intervals.

Finally, you’re ready to add plants or seeds. I recommend having your fish tank going for a couple of weeks before setting up your garden, to get a jump start on the nutrient buildup.

Since the Aquasprouts Garden works with a 10-gallon tank, you’ll want to use fish that thrive in that amount of space.

Many would consider a 10-gallon tank to be too small for goldfish. I will leave that up to you. I’ve found fish like guppies and tetras work well in these smaller tanks.

I also like to have a few cory catfish to clean up the bottom. For more information on what fish work well in 10-gallon tanks check out this article.

While your plants receive most of the nutrients from the fish, you can also add other common aquarium cohabitants like snails, shrimps, and crabs.

What Kind of Plants Can You Grow With The Aquasprouts Garden?

One of the great things about the Aquasprouts garden is that you can grow pretty much any type of plant you’d like. Leafy greens, herbs, and decorative plants grow with ease in the Aquaprout aquaponic garden.

Since this is a smaller aquaponic garden, when growing fruiting vegetables, I would recommend those varieties that produce smaller fruits. For example, I would cherry tomatoes as opposed to the regular variety.

Plants that produce fruit need more nutrients than those that don’t. In aquaponic gardens, it’s important that you have enough fish to create enough

waste to provide adequate nutrients to your garden.
